Zire Golf Weekly
This week had a bit of everything. Players speaking up. Crowds under the spotlight. Historic venues back on center stage. Golf never really stands still. It just shifts shape in public.
🌊 Why Pebble Beach matters
Pebble Beach Golf Links coastline
With the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am underway, it’s worth remembering why this place hits different. Opened in 1919 and laid out in a dramatic figure-eight along the Pacific coastline, Pebble Beach was designed to hug as much ocean as possible.
The course has hosted six U.S. Opens, a PGA Championship, and now annual PGA Tour action, becoming one of the most recognizable backdrops in golf. What makes it even more iconic? It’s fully public, meaning anyone willing to pay the greens fee can walk the same fairways as Tiger, Jack, and Tom. Beauty, history, major moments, and bucket-list access. That’s why Pebble still sets the standard.
👀 Player vs Augusta
Gary Player at Augusta National
Gary Player has taken aim at Augusta National after being denied a round with his grandsons. As a past champion he can play, but without membership he cannot bring guests. That request was rejected. Player says he, Palmer, and Nicklaus helped build the Masters into what it is today. Augusta sees it differently.
💬 Paige hits pause
Paige Spiranac on the golf course
Paige Spiranac has stepped back from social media after revealing she has been battling anxiety and feeling stuck in a rut. She said the influencer grind can be draining and is now focused on returning more authentically.

🎙 Rory shuts down “fifth major” talk
Rory McIlroy at The Players Championship
Rory McIlroy says The Players Championship does not need to become men’s golf’s fifth major. He called it one of the best tournaments in the world, but made it clear he is a traditionalist and believes the men’s game should stick with four majors. Rory also suggested The Players currently has more identity than the PGA Championship, adding that the PGA should move back to August to regain its edge.
🇬🇧 The Brits can’t get enough
British Open golf scene
Not just an American surge. Great Britain posted its biggest year for golf rounds since 2005, up 14% year over year and ahead of every post-pandemic season. Beyond the weather, simulators, tech ranges, and social formats are driving the boom. Top 100 Courses here.
🍻 LIV vs Phoenix crowds
Danny Lee at WM Phoenix Open
Danny Lee says there’s a clear difference between LIV’s “Watering Hole” and the PGA Tour’s famous 16th at the WM Phoenix Open. Lee called LIV crowds “a lot more respectful,” claiming Phoenix fans often try to put players off mid-swing. Not everyone agrees. Viktor Hovland said this year’s 16th felt fun and under control. So what do you prefer? Rowdy chaos or respectful energy?
That’s the week in golf.
